The first UK course covering the use of Mimics and Simplant CMF software was held at Product Design and Research (PDR) Cardiff under the aegis of CARTIS from the 8-9th September.

The course was attended by 5 MPT’s and 3 Maxillofacial Surgeons. New advances in technology now allow the 3D planning of craniofacial implants, osteotomy planning and distraction from imported CT scan data.

‘It is extremely important that UK MPTs position themselves to learn and implement these new advances in our profession’ said course co-organiser, Alan Bocca, he added ‘ We are extremely proud and pleased to be the first in the UK to hold this type of course and I hope that it has given the participants an insight into what degree of computer aided prediction and planning is now available’.

A further course is planned for early next year.
