It gives me great pleasure to tell you about all the exciting developments we have planned for our 24th Biennial Scientific Conference in Belfast (9th-11th September 2009.) Thank you to all those members who completed their evaluation forms after the congress in Leeds last year and as a direct result of all the feedback we received The IMPT Council and Congress Organising committee have taken all the comments into consideration when organising next years event.

We have totally changed the format of the conference; starting on Wednesday 9th September at midday we have organised specialist pre-congress demonstrations on topics such as sculpting, CAD CAM and digital imaging. Along side these live demos we will have some smaller workshops on silicone colour matching systems and laser welding, we are sure there will be something to interest everyone.

On Thursday 10th and Friday 11th September we have planned two full packed days of Master class and  invited guest speakers all speaking on a wide range of topics guaranteed to invoke discussion and inspire learning. At present these topics include Orthognathic and Craniofacial Planning, complex implantology, a variety of interesting topics around silicones and the newest innovations in CAD CAM technology. Of course we will still require submissions from our membership and to this end we are offering a £50 or £40 reduction or refund if your presentation or poster is accepted onto the programme respectively. I urge you all to start thinking of those techniques and ideas you’ve kept to yourself all these years and share them with the rest of us. I personally always look forward to seeing the first time speakers as it’s great to see new up and coming talent in the world of Maxillofacial Prosthetics.

For the first time since I can remember our conference will not be held on a University Campus, instead we are holding it in a first class conference venue “W5 (The Waterfront, Belfast ” please feel free to visit the webpages at http://www.w5online.co.uk and see for yourself just what a spectacular venue it is. As we’ve chosen a new type of conference venue we’ve also made a change with our accommodation and we have secured rooms at a newly built Premier Inn situated right in the Heart of Belfast City Centre. (Below is a link to a short video to show the standard of a typical room)

For those that have never been to Belfast let me reassure you that you are in for a real treat. This vibrant city which is host to everything that we all love about Ireland is a truly wonderful place, with friendly people, bustling bars and restaurants, plenty of live music venues, all in beautiful buildings and surrounding scenery. All in all Belfast is an ideal city to host our Conference. Please be safe in the knowledge that you will not be disappointed and in this current financial climate as Belfast still trades in sterling our English delegates won’t need to change money into Euros and our European and International delegates can make their money go further and come to Ireland.

In pure IMPT style as well as the wonderful lecture programme we have scheduled the conference organising committee have not forgotten the all important social programme where delegates can network and catch up with maxillofacial colleagues.

On the Thursday evening we have an authentic Irish Ceilidh planned with a buffet, traditional Irish dancers and live music to entertain you all night. On the Friday prize giving evening we have a real treat having our Banquet dinner in the cities W5 venue, Ireland’s multi award-winning interactive discovery centre which has numerous weird and wonderful displays to see and play with. As well as a first class menu we will again have live Irish Folk music to accompany our meal and after the dinner and prize giving those that want to will be entertained with live music or they can retire to the hotel for drinks. Alternatively as we’re in Belfast City there are a host of late night venues to satisfy those that want to party on into the wee small hours.

As this is my first official conference as lady chair I really want it to be a great success. The Organising committee and I have pushed all the boundaries and strived to get the best for the IMPT membership to make this conference one if not the best yet so I would suggest you really don’t want to miss this one!!!

Please come and join us, I hope to see you all there.
Best wishes,
Sarah
