Dear Colleagues,
I am very proud to be writing this welcome address to you as your new Chairman. My predecessor Kevin Page undertook his role with commitment and diligence and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his nine years of leadership and guidance. On behalf of all of us I would like to express my gratitude to Kevin and Members of Council, who dedicate many hours of their own time to the administration, educational and strategic functions of The IMPT. I am committed to continue with the great work that has been achieved before me and with the support of Council and Members alike I hope to achieve positive results during my term of office.
September 5th - 7th of this year saw our 23rd Biennial Scientific Conference in Leeds. I am pleased to report that the meeting was a tremendous success with speakers from around the globe. The programme was informative and extremely interesting covering a wide range of topics from across our field. The organising committee did a brilliant job in planning the three day event and are a credit to our Institute for organising such a wonderful "glitch free" Congress. Well done.
I am slowly receiving feedback forms from the conference delegates and we have had some very positive feedback with some new fresh ideas for future meetings. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those members who have already completed their forms and urge those who have not, to do so.
The major issues that surround us today are Statutory Registration and the reorganisation of the National Health Service. The IMPT Council are actively involved in these issues and are working very closely with other organisations in order that the Institute moves forward in line with the developments and changes effecting us all. Regarding registration this has once again been delayed, probably until 2010 and this occurrence has been a big disappointment not least to all of those who have worked tirelessly over the years trying to achieve protection for our patients and the public. Regardless of the set backs The IMPT will remain committed to achieving Statutory Registration and at all times will keep members informed.
Once again I would like to thank my colleagues for their vote of confidence in electing me as your new Lady Chair and I hope I can prove myself to be worthy of the role.
Best wishes,
Sarah |
